How much sleep you need according to your age, reason 6 is very important!

Sleeping is very important for our overall health as it affects every function in the body. By sleeping more, we can be more productive and finish our everyday tasks without a problem. Everyone needs proper overnight rest, but do you know how much you should sleep according to your age? The hours of sleep vary from person to person – someone needs 4 hours, but others need 8 hours to rest.

The infographic you can see below was made by The National Institute of Sleep and will help you determine how much rest you need. The numbers you see are the recommended sleeping time over a 24-hour period, so if you take a 30-minute nap, it counts. Lack of sleep is a serious disorder which can cause serious diseases, so make sure you’re resting properly in order to keep your health in check.

Here are the reasons which interfere with your sleep:

1.Obesity

Obesity is a serious health concern which needs to be addressed sooner rather than later for numerous reasons. Staying in bed for too long will store your energy as fat instead of your body spending it. According to a recent study, subjects who sleep 10 hours overnight have a bigger risk of becoming obese than those who slept 8 hours, so make sure you check the infographic and determine the optimal sleeping time for your age.

2.Depression

Depression expresses itself by either oversleeping or insomnia. 15% who suffer from the disease don’t want to leave their beds, but oversleeping has a negative effect just as improper rest and may be the cause for your depression.

3.Back pain

Back pain affects your whole life, including your sleep. However, instead of staying in bed and enduring the pain, do some low-intensity exercises to strengthen your back muscles and resolve the problem.

4.Headaches

Oversleeping can cause headaches and might damage your serotonin levels, which will result in even more frequent headaches.

5.Diabetes

According to a study, people who sleep less than the recommended time are more likely to develop insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes, so make sure you rest properly overnight.

6.Heart disease

Sleeping too much can damage your heart, and this has been confirmed in a study conducted by the Nurses’ Health Study. The study examined the sleeping habits of more than 70 000 women and found out that women who sleep 11 hours overnight are more likely to suffer from coronary artery disease than those who slept 8 hours overnight.

In order to overcome your oversleeping, you need to set a sleep schedule and stick to it. A cold shower if you’re feeling sleepy will wake you up instantly, while exercising in the morning will provide you with enough energy for the day. It’s also important to drink the recommended amount of water (6-8 glasses) in order to prevent dehydration which may affect your sleeping habits.
